If you would like to work in an incredibly beautiful mountain environment, and practice your craft with an appreciative audience, this might be the opportunity for you. The Nurse Practitioner will be responsible for supervising and maintaining health and safety standards, managing and dispensing medications, and providing onsite medical evaluations to campers and staffers at the Lair of the Golden Bear family camp. The ideal candidate will have a current license to practice in the state of California, and will be responsible for advising the contract medical service provider as to the overall health and safety needs for the camp.
On behalf of our contracted medical services
provider, the California Alumni Association (CAA) is coordinating
the recruiting efforts for a Nurse Practitioner. The CAA
is contracting with a medical service provider to supply our Lair
of the Golden Bear family camp with health and safety services.
The Nurse Practitioner will be an employee of the medical service
provider and not of the California Alumni Association. The location
of this job will be on site at our Lair of the Golden Bear family
camp in Pinecrest, CA. If necessary we may also be able to accommodate
a small family, so don't let that hold you back.
The LAIR OF THE GOLDEN BEAR (Lair) is the
nation's preeminent summer family camp and is one of the oldest
and largest alumni family camps in the world. It has been owned
and operated by the California Alumni Association since 1949.
Located at 5,600 feet in the beautiful central Sierra Nevada Mountains,
the Lair borders the town of Pinecrest (about 150 miles east of
the San Francisco Bay Area). With three sister camps and a staff
of 150, the Lair provides memorable week-long vacations for more
than 10,000 campers each year! Camps Blue, Gold and Oski
have become a special home-away-from-home for Cal alumni, families
and friends.
The CALIFORNIA ALUMNI ASSOCIATION serves
the community of Cal alumni and students by providing life-long
connections to each other and to the University of California,
Berkeley.
Nurse Practitioner responsibilities include,
but are not limited to:
. In accordance with state law and established practice protocols:
--Interview patients, take medical histories, perform physical
examinations, make diagnoses, and prescribe appropriate treatments.
--Prescribe medication and medical devices.
--Refer patients to physicians for consultation or to specialized
health resources for treatment.
. Provide first aid and emergency medical care to campers and
staff, and coordinate with emergency medical personnel
. Establish and maintain a central Health and Safety Office at
the Lair that serves as a triage center and a communications hub
in medical emergency situations
. Secure and maintain supplies required to comply with written
health policies and health emergencies
. Maintain records concerning treatments or medication
. Serve as an example, teacher, adviser, and resource in matters
of health, nutrition, safety and sanitation; responsible for pre-camp
training of the staff in interpretation of the health and safety
standards and policies
. Maintain information suitable for both campers and staff in
health-related subjects, and hold office hours each day at each
location
Work Hours & Location:
. Work regular hours onsite 6 days a week. We are open to
the possibility of a job-share arrangement.
. Seasonal -- live on-site or near camp from mid-May through the
end of September
Requirements:
. BSN, MSN and a valid California Nurse Practitioner license
. California Nurse Practitioner Furnishing Certificate
. Valid driver's license
. Ability to apply common sense reasoning to a variety of situations
and carry out instructions in written, oral or diagram form in
a professional manner
Preferred Qualifications:
. Trained or familiar with outdoor emergency response and care
. Familiarity with local Sonora/Tuolumne County geographic region,
including knowledge of local emergency care providers and hospitals
. Familiarity with Lair and/or family camping environment
Salary: Commensurate with job duties
and experience. Position is seasonal.
